Tips for back or lower back muscle problems

The following tips don't replace proper treatments, They are only part of a patient's behavior under Dr. Li's care. Patients should consult Dr. Li before practicing these tips. After starting, any changes should be reported to Dr. Li because Dr. Li offers individual treatment plans depending on the individual patient's condition.

Help your back or lower back muscle to relax so that it will not cramp. If you careful not to strain your back or lower back, you may have healthy muscle sooner. Your spinal bone will be protected better.

  1. Avoid quick or strong movements, eg. watching out when getting in or out of a car, Even if you feel better following Dr. Li's treatment, don't challenge your back or lower back. Please be patient until Dr. Li releases you.
     
  2. Avoid lifting and heavy duty work, For most patients who hurt their lower back, do not pick up even 5 lbs.
     
  3. Avoid bending of your lower back. Remember to bend from your knees when you have to pick up something from the ground.
     
  4. If you want to put the pain-relief plastic patch on the painful area, please consult Dr. Li in order to avoiding allergic caused by the improper select the plastic patch. Pain-relief plastic patch may also mask the symptoms and delay treatment actions.
     
  5. If your condition is servere, during the day change position every 20-30 minutes. eg. from sitting to standing or walking, try to find breaks to lay down. Frequent short breaks are preferable to one long break. eg. 4 breaks a day for 10 minutes is better than 1 break for 1 hr. Keep one position for too long will slow down your circulation. It may cause stiffness muscle and delay recovery.
     
  6. Always keeping your spinal bones straight and in center day and night. When you are standing or walking, hold your stomach and extend your chest.

  7. Sitting in a chair with 1st 90 degree at your ankle. Sitting in a chair with 2nd 90 degree at your knee.Sitting in a chair with 3rd 90 degree at your hip. If you have any space between your lower back and the chair, please use a cushion to support your lower back.
     
  8. If your condition is severe, observed bed rest as told by the doctor.
     
  9. Sleep on a firm mattress. Should be as firm as our treatment bed. Most of the time lay on your back. Do not lay on the ground floor's carpet to avoid dampness from the ground. Unless you have an isolated mattress over it.
     
  10. The pillow you sleep on should be an approximate as high as your fist.
     
  11. Put a pillow between your knees when you lay on your left or on your right side.
     
  12. Constipation, delay of urination, or poor digestion aggravates lower back pain, For ladies no bathing during menstruation, shower instead, Irregular cycle of menstruation should be a concern, Tell the doctor if you have any of the above problems which may cause or aggravate your lower back pain.
     
  13. If it is a acute condition. eg. a pull of muscle, during the 24 hours following the incident, use an ice pack. After that, using a heat pack or a hot water bath 2 or 3 times a day, each bath lasting 10-15 minutes. If you suspect that you have high blood pressure too, consult Dr. Li before you have any heat treatments.
     
  14. If it is a chronic condition, it takes time to develop and it taking time to make recovery.
